Saturday Meditation Gathering at Sydney Meditation Centre

This Saturday, we had our regular monthly gathering at Sydney Meditation Centre — and as always, it was a wonderful morning filled with movement, stillness, and of course... a delicious lunch together! 😄


Morning Warm-Up & Mini Lecture


We kicked off the morning with some light stretching to wake up the body, followed by a short talk on the principles of the mind.


There are many different styles of meditation out there — listening to calming music, focusing on a candle flame, or practising complete silence.


But if we're looking for more than just a moment of quiet — if we want a fundamental solution — we first need to understand how the mind actually works, and have a method to empty it.


So... what is the mind?


Think of a camera. It captures an image of something real — and produces a photo. The photo looks identical to the real thing, but it's not the real thing. It's just a picture.

In the same way, humans take in everything through our five senses — sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch — and store it all in the mind like a photo album.


That collection of images, memories, and experiences? That is our mind.

Why do we need to empty it?


When we eat food, our body absorbs what it needs and eliminates the rest. If waste builds up inside, we get sick.

The same goes for the mind. We take in countless thoughts, emotions, and feelings every day. If we keep accumulating without letting go, the mind becomes heavy and cluttered.


That buildup shows up as anger, frustration, and irritability. Left unchecked, it can lead to anxiety, depression, panic disorder — and research even suggests long-term effects on cognitive health.

That's why we meditate — to subtract, not to add.


By reflecting on our own mind and gently releasing what we've been holding onto, we create space for a lighter, freer way of living.

Today's Group Discussion: Meditation Slumps 💬


After our practice, we shared what's improved in our lives since starting meditation, and why we keep coming back.


Then we got into something really relatable — the meditation slump.

We brainstormed around two very common thoughts:


"I don't have time. I'm too busy."

Funny enough, the busiest people are often the ones who need it most. 😅

Even just 10 minutes of mental clarity can make the rest of the day feel lighter and sharper.

Meditation isn't about finding extra time — it's about creating space in the mind.

When that space exists, we feel less drained and more focused.

We make time to sleep, eat, and shower. Meditation is like a shower for the mind. 🚿

And just like a phone that never gets charged eventually dies — the mind needs recharging too.



"It's too repetitive. It's boring."

Totally understandable — especially at the beginning.

Our minds are so used to constant stimulation that stillness can feel unfamiliar, even uncomfortable. And that unfamiliarity often shows up as boredom.

But think about it — exercise is repetitive. Brushing your teeth is repetitive. Practising an instrument is repetitive.

And yet, that's exactly where transformation happens.

Maybe the boredom is actually a sign that the mind is slowing down for the first time.

Muddy water, left undisturbed, becomes clear. Meditation might look simple on the outside — but on the inside, something is always shifting.


And one day, without even realising it, you notice you're calmer, lighter, and less rattled by the little things.


That's what keeps us coming back.


It was such a great morning of sharing, learning from each other, and growing together. 🌿

After meditation, we did what we always do — sat down for a lovely lunch and enjoyed each other's company. 🍽️
